Inside Teens Week
Great music, inspiring teaching artists and a week packed with workshops, games and surprises.
Your workshop group moves between singing, dance and acting, working with each of our teaching artists across the week.
Beginners welcome. You don’t need a theatre CV or years of performing experience. Bring your enthusiasm and be ready to get involved.
Sing. Dance. Act. Connect.
Group Singing
Learn musical theatre songs, build harmonies and explore how to bring a story to life through your voice.
Dance & Movement
Get stuck into musical theatre choreography, learn new combinations and discover what you can do with your body and a great piece of music.
Acting & Scene Work
Work with scripts, characters and improvisation. Make bold choices, explore different approaches and learn by getting up and having a go.
Games, Activities & Summer Fun
Theatre games, outdoor activities and time with your MTS Summer crew keep the week moving, with lots of laughs along the way.
“This week gave me hope that I can make something of my passion in the future. I was quite proud of my performance at the end. I had sooo much fun!”

Friday sharing
Come into our theatre world on Friday afternoon. Enjoy favourite songs, scenes and choreography, and see the friendships and confidence that have grown through the week.
A warm, informal celebration of the experience we’ve shared. Come as you are and enjoy the moment.
Extended care
Five days together, Monday to Friday, 9am–3pm, with extended care from 7.45–9am and 3–5pm.
Early arrivals and later pick-ups enjoy supervised games, creative activities and relaxed time with friends.
A whole week to settle in, build friendships and make memories that last well beyond Friday.
Our Teaching Artists are active performers and emerging leaders in Waikato’s musical theatre community.
You’ll spend the week working alongside our Teaching Artists, learning from their stage experience and getting feedback as you rehearse. They’re role models as well as teachers, with time to talk, answer questions and get to know you.
Our Programme Coordinator welcomes students, looks after wellbeing, answers family questions and keeps each day running smoothly.
“She gets to act, sing and dance all in one class and comes home with her cup overflowing.”
Katie (Parent)
Your MTS Summer company
We start and finish each day together.
At the start of each day, The Morning Hui brings everyone together to connect and warm up our bodies and voices.
We finish each afternoon with The Daily Share, coming back together to share work in progress and cheer each other on.
The week also includes our Day 1 Talent Show and Midweek MTS Surprise.
Time to hang out and recharge matters too. We build in a half-hour morning tea and a generous lunch break so you can get outside, spend time with new friends, chat with the teaching artists, rehearse together or settle in with a book. Less rushing, more time to enjoy it all.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is Teens Week for?
Anyone aged 13–18 who enjoys musical theatre or wants to give it a go!
Some teens will already have experience in shows and classes. Others might be trying musical theatre for the first time. Our teaching team makes sure there's room for everyone to participate and learn.
What if my teen is nervous or doesn't know anyone?
Plenty of teens arrive feeling nervous or without knowing anyone.
We start the week with our MTS Company Kickoff welcome morning: introductions and games designed to build fast friendships. Our Teaching Artists and Programme Coordinator help teens connect with their workshop group, get involved and feel part of the company.
What should they wear and bring?
Comfortable clothes and shoes they can move in, a water bottle and food for morning tea and lunch.
We'll send more detailed information to enrolled families before the programme begins.
Can my teen attend fewer than five days?
Teens Week is designed as a full-week programme. If your teen can’t make all five days, tell us in the enrolment form. We’ll confirm the arrangement and price before invoicing.
How does extended care work?
Optional extended care is included in the programme price. Arrive from 7.45am and stay until 5.30pm, with MTS staff hosting relaxed time with your theatre crew before and after the programme. On Friday, afternoon care starts after our celebration at 4.30pm. We’ll check which days you need before the week begins.
What if we need to cancel?
Email admin@musicaltheatrestudio.co.nz. Cancel by 28 December 2026 and we’ll refund payments less reasonable administration costs, capped at $50. After that, we’ll try to refill the place; any cancellation charge is limited to our reasonable unrecovered loss.
You can also request a transfer to another eligible student. Read our booking and cancellation terms for the full details.
What if we enrol after 4 January?
We’ll confirm the payment deadline before you accept the place. Payment plans are available by agreement.

Teens who love musical theatre, want to try it, or are keen to build confidence performing in front of others. No prior dance or singing training is required. More experienced performers will be stretched and challenged with extension options.
-
Comfortable clothes they can move in, closed shoes, a water bottle, packed lunch and snacks. Friday’s relaxed sharing is part of our normal day: come ready to sing, dance, act and enjoy the week.
-
That is very normal. The first morning is designed around confidence and connection building games that build new friendships fast. Many of the strongest friendships in the studio started at a holiday program just like this.
“The best thing about Musical Theatre Studio is the safe, welcoming environment where I feel brave enough to try, make mistakes and grow.”
